Fender “The Twin” – Tonex Amp Profile
(A classic amp captured through a high-end analogue chain — extended, enhanced, and ready to mix)
This was the first Tonex profile I ever made - built just for myself to solve a real problem... I love this amp but it's almost impossible to work with day-to-day. It’s unpredictable, painfully loud and just too much for most rooms. But when it sings, it’s magic.
To make that magic reliable, I profiled it through a high-end analogue chain that does far more than just "capture" the sound — it enhances it in all the right ways:
Shure SM57
Heritage Audio JR73 (vintage 1073-style preamp)
Heritage Audio 1073-style EQ (vintage 1073-style eq w/add. frequencies)
Universal Audio 1176
The 1073 EQ in particular has a high shelf that brings out top-end detail and harmonic texture in a way that digital tools rarely replicate. Paired with the gentle saturation of the 1176, this chain extends the frequency response and adds musical harmonics beyond what most guitar cabinets naturally produce.
That’s a common theme in my work: I rarely settle for what comes straight out of a cabinet. I’m always looking for ways to push guitar sounds further; to give them a bit more depth, energy and mix-readiness. This profile is a reflection of that approach.
It handles low-gain to medium drive beautifully and responds naturally to pedals. I've used it on countless recordings, and it’s become my first choice when I need a solid, go-to guitar tone that just works.
You’ve probably already heard it - it’s featured on tracks that have been played on BBC Radio 1, Spotify editorial playlists and several that have earned “Track of the Week” spots.
Want more flexibility?
There’s a matching IR pack available too, captured from the same amp with multiple mics, placements, and distances. It’s ideal if you want more tonal control or a specific vibe... and it pairs perfectly with this profile. I use them together all the time.

If you’re looking for a rich, versatile guitar tone that plays well in a modern mix and a signal path that captures more than just a speaker cone - this one might be for you.
Let me know if it makes it onto a record - I’d love to hear how you use it!
