Fender "The Twin" - IR Pack
Let me tell you about this amp...
My Fender “The Twin” is the loudest, heaviest, most temperamental beast in the studio. It sounds incredible - when it wants to. But it’s way too loud for most studios or stages, and recording it was starting to feel like taming a wild animal.
So, in early 2025, I spent a full day capturing this thing in every way I could think of - all so I could load it up in the control room anytime I wanted. Now, I’m sharing that with you.
What’s Inside:
🎤 3 SM57s (yes, they sound different!)
I shot out three of my SM57s - all slightly different in tone... plus an "Omni 57" mod version (cardioid converted to omnidirectional). I picked my favourite for the rest of the pack, but you get all three to hear for yourself. It’s surprising how much these mics vary!🔊 10 Close-Mic Positions (Front)
Using the best SM57 of the bunch, I captured five positions on each of the two speakers. That classic Fender "twang" varies a lot depending where you place the mic - this gives you all the options you'd want as if you were doing it live.🎙 AKG 414 – 2 Positions, 2 Patterns
One of my favourite mics for combo amps. You get two mic positions (focused on the sweet spots) and two polar patterns: cardioid and figure-8. The latter adds room tone and warmth.🎛 6 Mic Options
Beyond the 57 and 414, I added captures from four other mics I commonly use:
- Shure Beta 58 (awesome for distorted tones)
- Neumann KM 184 (detailed and clean)
- Cascade Fathead (ribbon, well-balanced)
- SE R1 (ribbon, dark + vintage vibe)
🔁 6 Rear-Mic Positions
The back of the cab adds depth - I captured six positions with the 414. Great for blending with close mics or using on their own for something strange and spacious.
📏 Distant Mics – 100ms + 5s Versions
Captured in a small reverb chamber with a 414. These aren’t “room mics” - they’re meant to be used as the main sound. Think surf, indie, ambient textures. You get short (100ms) and long (5s) IRs - load them in something like Logic’s Space Designer or Convology XT.
🏛 Room Reverb (MS capture)
A stereo Mid-Side room capture from the reverb chamber. Blend it in for a touch of real room tone - and use a mid-side plugin after the IR loader to dial the stereo field just how you like it.
🧪 Bonus: Mix IR
A custom blend of my favourite mics/positions, with processing, ready to drop into a session for a full-range, mix-ready tone.
30+ IRs. Ridiculously cheap. I didn’t make this to sell - I made it for me. If it ends up helping you make something you’re proud of, then that’s a win for both of us.
Drop them in your IR loader, crank it up; and if they make it into a song… send it my way. I’d love to hear it.
Enjoy!
